Skebo will raise parking fees to market rates beginning in 2024. The decision is primarily motivated by Skebo’s commitment to supporting the transition toward a more sustainable society, in accordance with the directives from Skellefteå Municipality.

Our mission includes promoting sustainability, which encompasses creating a more modern and environmentally friendly parking environment. However, parking facilities must also cover their own costs. Otherwise, we won’t be able to develop them to meet future needs,” says Helena Markgren, CEO of Skebo

The revenue  generated from parking fees will be used, among other things, for investments in parking infrastructure to address current and future demands.

The price adjustment also aims to standardize and establish uniform pricing. “Historically, those with private cars have been favored, which isn’t reasonable from a sustainability perspective,” says Helena Markgren. “We want to create a fairer pricing structure where those who use parking spaces also pay for them. Essentially, this change removes varying subsidies.”

Skebo’s overarching  mission is to create modern and sustainable living environments for Skellefteå residents, which also involves transportation and enabling sustainable travel options for tenants. To fulfill this mission, the company needs a balanced and market-based pricing structure that is paid by users across all aspects of our operations, while also contributing to long-term sustainable practices. In 2024, one of our key focus areas is parking facilities, where space is being optimized for improvements. Our initial efforts involve upgrading a parking area in Ursviken and Kåge, including replacing garage doors and repainting structures,” says Harriet Classon, Chairperson of Skebo.

The gradual implementation of the new pricing model will take place gradually throughout 2024. Skebo will send out a new parking offer to all tenants, with the goal of having all new agreements in place by the second quarter of 2025.
“This provides our current tenants with ample adjustment time until the new terms take effect. To promote the transition to more sustainable modes of transportation, we will offer discounts on public transport during a transition period for tenants who choose not to renew their parking spaces. Additionally, Skebo will actively develop electric car pools and bicycle pools within our stock,” says Helena Markgren, CEO of Skebo.

Skebo’s decision to adjust parking tariffs aligns with both Skellefteå Municipality’s recently approved environmental and climate program and previously established traffic programs. It is an initiative where two of the goals are to promote sustainable travel and contribute to attractive and sustainable urban environments through smart land use.
