All Skebo’s apartments are equipped with fire blankets. The blankets belong to each apartment, which means that you cannot take them with you when you move. If you are forced to use the blanket in the event of a fire, we will replace it at no cost to you.

When using a fire blanket to extinguish a fire

The fire blankets must be stored in the box mounted in the hall of your apartment. It is important that everyone who lives in the apartment knows that the fire blanket is there and how it is used. Fire blankets are suitable for use in the event of a stove fire, electrical fires, fires on horizontal surfaces, as well as clothing.

  1. Pull the fire blanket out of the plastic box using the black drawstrings.
  2. Cover the burning material to cut off the air supply. Do not throw the blanket over the fire, as this will give the fire more oxygen.
  3. If someone’s clothing has caught fire, first make the person lie down on the floor. Start by moving the blanket from their head down to their feet so that the face does not burn. Then wrap the blanket around the person.

How to prevent a fire

Test the battery in the smoke detector by pressing the test button. Change the battery once a year!

Make sure everyone in the family knows where the fire blanket is and how to use it.

Never leave candles unattended. Only use candle holders that are heat resistant, and make sure they are stable and will not tip over.

Do not leave the stove unattended when cooking. Clean the fan and fan filter regularly.

Check that electrical cords are intact and avoid using spliced cables if possible.

After grilling, the ashes should be placed in a tin bucket with lid. Ash can glow for several days and should not be discarded until you are sure that it is extinguished.

In the event of a fire

1. Save

Save yourself and other people who are in danger in your vicinity first. The safest means to escape is to drop to the floor where there is more oxygen in the air. It is also very important to close all doors (and even windows if you have time).

2. Warn

The next step is to warn everyone who in the vicinity of the fire so that they also have a chance to evacuate. For example, you can shout loudly that there is a fire or ring on all the doors in your stairwell.

3. Call emergency services

After that, you should call 112 for the fire department. The emergency line operator will tell you more about how to proceed.

4. Extinguish

Only after completing the first three steps can you try to extinguish the fire, but only if you can do it without risking your life. Keep in mind that the smoke is very toxic and low in oxygen. Again, it will make a big difference if you simply contain the fire.

Never go out into a smoke-filled stairwell! Close the door and stay in the apartment.
